Welcome!
A little bit about my story: I had a Left Ovarian Vein embolization performed in 2013.
Since having the procedure, ultrasound imaging has shown that blood flow has returned to the vein, and I'm now also experiencing varying degrees of pain in the region.
I've also started reading about other cases of people experiencing pain following pelvic vein embolization, due to issues such as:
A little bit about my story: I had a Left Ovarian Vein embolization performed in 2013.
Since having the procedure, ultrasound imaging has shown that blood flow has returned to the vein, and I'm now also experiencing varying degrees of pain in the region.
I've also started reading about other cases of people experiencing pain following pelvic vein embolization, due to issues such as:
Erosion of the vein wall by embolization coils
"...the metal embolization coils...were found to have eroded through the vein wall and were lying sub-peritoneally in the left pelvic side wall" (Source: Can ovarian vein embolization cause more harm than good?)
I'm seeing a specialist, and am in the process of having tests done to determine whether the pain is related to the coils, and if so, taking steps towards having the embolization coils removed via an oophorectomy.
I've created this site to provide links to research and information about ovarian vein embolization, to help others who may have encountered problems with embolization coils, and also those who are considering having the procedure.
Thanks
for dropping by, and I'd love to hear any comments from others who are
thinking about the procedure, or who have had the procedure :)
About the links on this site:
When researching the procedure, I noticed that most medical websites described the procedure as being low-risk and didn't offer a lot of information about the efficacy of the procedure, and which conditions it was most suitable for (women with vulval varicose veins, women with abdominal pain etc). When I started looking into possible complications and side effects, I found that there were quite a few research papers scattered around the web, but I also noticed that a lot of the studies included small sample numbers and some researchers seemed divided on the efficacy of the procedure for treating different conditions.
I am in the process of trying to gather all of this information into the one place, with links to resources and studies, and notes on the limitations of each study (eg. small number of participants etc)
I’m hoping to provide women with links to current and relevant information, and to encourage women to make an informed decision about the procedure. As it is still a relatively new procedure, I'm interested in the long-term effects (and long-term efficacy) of the procedure.
